If you may be physically dependent, do not stop suddenlyStopping alcohol or benzodiazepines abruptly can be dangerous if you are physically dependent, severe withdrawal symptoms can include seizures. Get medical advice first, and ask about medically supervised withdrawal management or medical detox where it is needed. In a life-threatening emergency call 911. For a mental-health crisis, call or text the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline, and for urgent non-emergency addiction advice call ConnexOntario on 1-866-531-2600, free and 24/7.

You do not have to pay for addiction treatment in Ottawa. In Ontario, publicly funded assessment and treatment for substance use, alcohol addiction and drug addiction is free, and the way in is a single call to ConnexOntario on 1-866-531-2600, or a visit to your family doctor. Free 24/7 crisis support and free mutual-aid meetings are available too, alongside community services that address addiction and mental health together where that dual diagnosis picture applies. Private residential care is faster and more intensive but is paid privately, and treatment abroad can cost less than a private residential stay in Canada. Below are the main options, side by side, so you can see what each one actually offers before you choose.

Who publishes this, and why it matters. This guide is published by Sierra Recovery. We are not based in Ottawa, we are a residential centre in Humilladero, Málaga, Spain, and we are included below as one option among the local ones, clearly marked, for people who would consider treatment away from home. Unlike a directory, our list is not influenced by anyone paying for placement, and where a local option is better for you than we are, we say so plainly. If you are simply looking for help and trying to understand addiction and its causes before deciding anything, ConnexOntario is still the best free starting point.

## Free drug and alcohol services in Ottawa

Start here, before you consider paying for anything. These services are free, they are local, and for a great many people they are enough on their own. We publish them because a centre that only tells you about its own programme is not giving you the full picture.

the commissioning authority

Free drug and alcohol treatment for Ottawa is commissioned by ConnexOntario. Their page lists the current provider, which changes when contracts are retendered, so we link the authority rather than a service name that may be out of date.

The NHS advises starting with your GP, who can assess you, advise on safe options and refer you into local treatment. Call NHS 111 for urgent advice that is not an emergency.

## AA and NA meetings in Ottawa

Mutual aid meetings are free, they run most days, and there is no waiting list, no referral and no assessment. You can walk into one this week. They work alongside whatever else you choose rather than instead of it, and plenty of people use them and nothing else.

How to find a meeting near Ottawa

Alcoholics Anonymous

Search your town or postcode on the [Alcoholics Anonymous](https://www.aa.org/find-aa) site to see every meeting near Ottawa, in person and online, with days and times.

Narcotics Anonymous

If drugs are part of the picture, search the [Narcotics Anonymous](https://www.na.org/meetingsearch/) site for meetings near Ottawa.

### What actually happens at a first meeting

You do not have to speak, and you do not have to give your surname. Most meetings open with a reading, someone shares for a while, and others speak if they want to. It lasts about an hour, and it is free, though a basket goes round for the room hire. Nobody takes a register and nobody will ask you to commit to anything.

An open meeting can be attended by anyone, including family. A closed meeting is for people who think they may have a problem themselves. If the first group does not suit you, the next one along will feel different, because each has its own character. The usual advice is to try three before deciding it is not for you.

We link the official finders rather than print a timetable, because meeting times and venues change and a stale listing sends someone to a locked door. Checked 28 July 2026.

## Private residential rehab centres near Ottawa

Publicly funded residential detox and rehab for Ottawa residents is arranged through the Ontario system, either by referral through ConnexOntario or through your family doctor. Private residential centres also operate in and around the Ottawa region, generally offering inpatient rehab with medical detox, individual and group therapy or group sessions, and care plans meant to be tailored to each person's unique needs rather than a single fixed treatment programme. We are deliberately not naming a private local centre here, because no single one's current licence, availability and price could be verified from one dated source. The honest way to find a real, current local option is the free ConnexOntario service, which keeps the up-to-date directory of licensed services in the Ottawa area, including outpatient and inpatient treatment centres, and can tell you what is available now.

If you are researching private care, confirm each centre's licence and current fees directly, and cross-check it against what ConnexOntario tells you is available locally.

## What drug and alcohol rehab costs in Ottawa

Publicly funded treatment is free. That is the most important cost fact on this page, and for most people in Ottawa it is the right first step, whatever the treatment options they eventually need. Private residential care is a separate market. Published Canadian rehab directories typically list private residential treatment programmes from around CA$10,000 a month upward, rising steeply at the luxury end, though every rehab centre sets its own fees and inclusions differ. For comparison, Sierra’s residential programme in Spain is £9,900 for 28 days, published, with any hospital detox billed separately. Flights and, where needed, a medically supervised detox completed before admission are additional in every case.

Please verify before you decide. Services, waiting times and prices change, and every centre sets its own fees. The figures here are indicative ranges drawn from public directories and each provider’s own published information, dated above, not quotations. Always confirm directly with the service or centre.

Considering residential treatment abroad?

## Sierra Recovery, Málaga, Spain

Most people who look abroad are not chasing sunshine. They are trying to get far enough away from the people, the places and the routine that keep the drinking or the using going, because they have already discovered that stopping while all of that is still fifteen minutes away does not hold. That distance is the whole point, and it is the one thing a clinic near Ottawa cannot give you.

Sierra Recovery is a working farmhouse on forty hectares of olive groves in the Málaga countryside, about forty five minutes from the airport and roughly three hours from most UK airports. It is small, the team is English-speaking, and the same clinicians treat you from the first day to the last. What follows is what that actually buys, stated plainly enough that you can compare it with anything else you are considering.

What matters when comparing

Sierra Recovery

Is it actually licensed

A registered health centre entered in the Registro Andaluz de Centros, Servicios y Establecimientos Sanitarios (the Andalusian register of health centres, services and establishments) under N.I.C.A. 67331, authorised by the Junta de Andalucía. You can look it up yourself on the public register.

What it costs, in full

£9,900 for the 28-day residential programme, published on the site up front. All rooms are individual. You get an itemised written quotation before admission.

Who pays whom

No referral fees are paid or accepted, in either direction. Nobody earns a commission for sending you here, which is worth checking about any centre you are comparing.

What the clinical work is

Three group sessions a day five days a week, individual therapy three times a week, and a seventeen-module psychoeducation curriculum. The approach adapts the method of PROMIS Clinics, treating addiction in the United Kingdom since 1986.

Where the limits are

It is not a hospital and not a detox unit. Where a medically supervised detox is clinically needed it is completed in an appropriate medical setting before admission and billed separately. Qualified nurses are part of the team throughout the stay.

Who you speak to first

Our admissions team, all of them clinicians, working to the standards set by our clinical director. The assessment is free, and if a service closer to home suits you better, we will say so.

What happens afterwards

Aftercare is agreed before you leave: a session every week for a full year, online or in person at the PROMIS clinics in London, which is more than 48 sessions in the twelve months after discharge. A written handover goes to your GP so nothing has to be explained from scratch.

Every figure above is published elsewhere on this site and can be checked. See [pricing](/pricing/), [regulation and licensing](/regulation-and-licensing/) and [the programme](/our-programme-at-sierra-recovery/).

## Which addiction treatment option is right for you

Start with ConnexOntario if you are unsure, if cost is the barrier, or if you want to stay near family and work, it is free and it is the front door to everything publicly funded in Ottawa. Call or text 9-8-8 if you or someone you love is in crisis right now. Publicly funded residential treatment in Ontario if you need detox and rehab and can wait for a place through the system. Private residential in Canada if you need to be seen quickly, need detox and rehab together, or want to stay close to home and can pay privately. Treatment abroad only if private care at home is out of reach or you want real distance from the environment tied to the habit, you can travel, and you do not need an immediate hospital detox. Use AA or NA alongside whatever you choose, for ongoing care and continued support once formal treatment ends.

Whichever route you take, taking the first step to recovery matters more than which option you pick, and ongoing support after treatment is what tends to turn early progress into lasting change and sustained recovery. A supportive space, a variety of programmes to choose from locally, and a care team who understand addiction and its causes can all help you reclaim your life, whatever your health needs. If, after all of that, treatment abroad still feels right for you, the clearest next step is a confidential conversation through [admissions](/admissions/), where we will tell you honestly if a route in Ottawa would serve you better and support your own recovery journey.

## Questions people ask

Is there free drug and alcohol treatment in Ottawa?

Yes. In Ontario, publicly funded assessment and treatment is free, and the entry point is ConnexOntario on 1-866-531-2600, a free 24/7 line funded by the Government of Ontario, or a visit to your family doctor. For most people in Ottawa this is the right first step, and cost should not be the reason anyone goes without help.

What number do I call for addiction help in Ottawa?

For free advice and referral, call ConnexOntario on 1-866-531-2600, which covers the Ottawa area 24/7. For a mental-health crisis, call or text the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911. Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous also run free meetings across Ottawa and online.

Are there private residential rehab centres in Ottawa?

Private residential centres operate in and around the Ottawa region, and publicly funded residential treatment is arranged through the Ontario system. Licence, availability and price change often, and none could be confirmed from a single dated source for this guide. The honest way to find a real, current local option is the free ConnexOntario service, which keeps the directory of licensed local services.

How much does private rehab cost in Ottawa?

Publicly funded treatment is free. Private residential care is separate: published Canadian directories typically list programmes from around CA$10,000 a month upward, rising steeply at the luxury end, though every centre sets its own fees. These are indicative ranges, not quotations, so confirm directly with any centre before you rely on a figure.

Why would someone from Ottawa consider rehab abroad?

Some people want real distance from the environment tied to the habit, faster access than a public waiting list, or a residential cost below private Canadian rates. Sierra Recovery in Spain is one such option: a registered health centre treating in English for 9,900 pounds over 28 days, published. It suits people who can travel and do not need an immediate hospital detox, and we will say honestly if a route in Ottawa would serve you better.

### From Ottawa, admission can happen within days

Where no medical detox is needed first, the usual sequence is a free assessment, an itemised written quotation, and a flight. Málaga is around three hours from most UK airports. Where a detox is needed it is arranged first and that changes the timing, and we will tell you so at assessment, before you book anything.
