Welcome to Sierra Recovery

## An affordable luxury rehab in Spain for drugs, alcohol and mental health

Sierra Recovery is a licensed residential treatment centre offering personalised, evidence-based treatment for drug and alcohol addiction and the co-occurring mental health conditions that so often sit underneath it. The luxury here is the depth of care: a bespoke treatment plan built around each person, with medical assessment and detox where it is clinically needed, individual and group therapy, holistic therapies and relapse prevention, delivered by an English-speaking clinical team.

Whether the problem is alcohol, cocaine addiction or another drug, or an addiction and mental health picture together, we treat the whole person. Our treatment options cover substance abuse and behavioural addictions, using evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT, EMDR and motivational interviewing in a calm, therapeutic setting, a genuinely holistic approach to addiction recovery.

Why choose Sierra Recovery

## Why Choose Sierra Recovery for Addiction Treatment?

Sierra Recovery Centre sits in 40 hectares (nearly 100 acres) of private land in a remote part of the Malaga countryside, surrounded by its own olive groves and seasonal fields of barley and wheat, with mountains and fresh air. Our rehab programmes offer the chance to recover from alcohol and drug misuse in a comfortable, genuinely rustic rehab clinic.

Everything here goes into the programme: one house, a small group of adults, the same clinicians from your first day to your last, and aftercare arranged before you leave. The countryside around it is beautiful, and the work is what people take home with them.

### Clinical care in a rustic Andalusian cortijo

Rough stone walls, wooden beams and tiled courtyards. One rustic farmhouse in the countryside, a small group of adults, and you are known by name from the first day.

### Led by a registered clinician on site

Your day-to-day care is led by our director, Nerea Encinas Sánchez, a registered General Health Psychologist, with a qualified nursing team on site. The clinical programme uses the PROMIS Clinics model adapted to Sierra, and is clinically backed by PROMIS, who have treated addiction in the United Kingdom since 1986. Everyone on the team speaks English.

### Aftercare that follows you home

When you go home your care continues, online wherever you live, or in person at the PROMIS clinics in London, with a weekly session for a full year, more than 48 in the twelve months after discharge, and a written handover to your GP. For clients elsewhere in Europe we arrange continuity online and help find local services near you.

### Food worth eating

Cooked by our executive chef, Harri Archanco, who trained at the Michelin-starred restaurant Galvin at Windows in London.

### Horses on the land

We have horses on site. They live here on the land, and equine-assisted therapy is part of the working week.

### Your own private room, and the starting price published up front

A full residential programme in Spain. The starting price is published up front, and all rooms are individual.

## Two minutes, and you will know if it is right.

A rustic cortijo set in 40 hectares (nearly 100 acres) of private working farmland, forty five minutes inland from Malaga airport. This is rural Andalusia: stone walls, dirt tracks, olive groves and fields of barley and wheat in season, private and secluded, and small enough that everyone knows your name.

## Some of the work does not happen in a room.

Horses respond to what you are actually feeling rather than what you say you are feeling, which is why equine work often reaches people before words do. It runs on site, as part of the ordinary week.

Treatment programmes

## Discover personalised addiction treatment programmes in Spain.

People come to us for alcohol and drugs, and almost always for the anxiety, depression or trauma sitting underneath. We treat both in the same programme, with the same team. Where clinical risk requires a hospital, we say so before you travel and arrange it with our partner hospital.

### Detox, arranged before you arrive

Where a medically supervised detox is needed, for alcohol, cocaine, opioids, benzodiazepines, cannabis, prescription or synthetic drugs, Sierra arranges it with an appropriate medical provider and it is completed before residential admission. Sierra is a registered health centre, not a hospital or a detox unit.

### Residential treatment

Continuous support, night and day, while therapists help you identify the root causes of the addiction and build a foundation for long-term recovery. Aftercare continues when you leave, wherever you live.

### Holistic therapy

CBT, DBT, EMDR and somatic experiencing, with equine-assisted therapy, yoga, mindfulness and art alongside the clinical work.

The kitchen

## Nobody recovers on bad food.

Appetite is one of the first things to come back, and one of the first things people notice here. Our meals are prepared by our Michelin-trained chef, Harri Archanco, using produce from the Malaga province: olive oil from the groves around us, fruit and vegetables from the local growers, and menus that follow the season.

Seasonal, plated properly, three times a day, with dietary and clinical needs built in. It matters more than it sounds.

## The questions people actually ask before they come.

Here is everything you might want to verify before you pick up the phone, with the links to check it for yourself.

Who is behind Sierra Recovery?

Sierra Recovery is a registered health centre in Málaga province, and its programme uses the PROMIS Clinics model adapted to Sierra and is clinically backed by PROMIS Clinics, one of the United Kingdom's longest established private rehabilitation clinics, treating addiction since 1986.

PROMIS is family owned and run, is registered with the Care Quality Commission for its clinics in England, and has treated thousands of patients across its sites in South Kensington and Kent. Its Managing Director is Robin Lefever, BSc Psychology, University of Kent.

That lineage is worth knowing. The building here is new; the clinical thinking is not. Sierra was founded by Robin Lefever, Managing Director of PROMIS, who has worked in addiction treatment for around 35 years, the programme uses the PROMIS model adapted to this centre, and PROMIS clinicians sit on the team that reviews it. You are choosing a clinical approach with more than 40 years behind it, delivered in a new place.

Sierra Recovery Services S.L. is a separate Spanish company operating a single centre. It is not a CQC-regulated body itself; it is regulated in Spain by the Junta de Andalucía.

Is Sierra Recovery a licensed treatment centre?

Yes. Sierra Recovery Services S.L. is entered in the Registro Andaluz de Centros, Servicios y Establecimientos Sanitarios (the Andalusian register of health centres, services and establishments) under N.I.C.A. 67331. The authorisation was granted by the Delegación Territorial de Salud y Consumo (the regional health and consumer affairs authority) in Málaga following an on-site inspection with a positive assessment.

The authorised care unit is atención sanitaria a drogodependientes (healthcare for drug dependency, authorised care unit U.71), in a supervised residential setting. It is not a hospital licence. Where clinical risk requires a hospital, care is transferred to our partner hospital, and we tell you which applies to you before you travel.

You can confirm this for yourself: [search for N.I.C.A. 67331 in the Junta de Andalucía public register of health centres](https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/salud/oficinavirtual/consulta/index.jsp).

How long is the rehab programme in Spain?

Most people stay twenty eight days or longer, because that is what the clinical work realistically takes.

Length of stay is agreed after a clinical assessment, and it can be extended if the clinical picture calls for it.

Is the detox medically supervised?

Sierra Recovery is a residential rehabilitation centre, not a detox unit. Where a medically supervised detox is needed, it is completed in an appropriate medical setting before your residential programme begins, and qualified nurses are part of the team during your stay.

We assess which of the two applies to you before you travel.

What happens to my treatment when I go home?

Your care continues. Aftercare is delivered online, or in person at the PROMIS clinics in London when you return to the UK, with a written handover so nothing has to be explained from scratch.

Alongside that there is a weekly virtual group with the people you did the programme with, and a written clinical handover to your GP or UK provider on discharge.

How much does rehab at Sierra Recovery cost?

The programme starts at £9,900. What you pay depends on how long you stay and the level of clinical support you need, including whether withdrawal has to be managed in hospital.

You receive the full figure in writing after a clinical assessment and before you commit to anything, and any further clinically necessary costs are explained and authorised in advance wherever possible. Private residential rehab in the UK typically costs more for an equivalent length of stay.

How quickly can I be admitted?

Usually within days. We assess you clinically by phone or video before you book a flight, and if this setting is not right for you we say so at that point, before you travel.

The centre is forty five minutes from Málaga airport and we arrange the transfer.

Do you treat mental health as well as addiction?

Yes, and in the same programme. Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD and burnout are treated alongside the addiction by the same clinical team, whether they are standalone or co-occurring with substance use.

Treating them together, by one team, is what the programme is built to do.

Do you treat gambling, gaming and other behavioural addictions?

Yes. Problem gambling, gaming, compulsive internet use, and love and relationship addiction are all treated at the centre.

Addiction goes further than substances, and the underlying work is often the same.

What therapies do you use?

The clinical programme draws on cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, EMDR and somatic experiencing, delivered by a trauma-informed team.

Alongside that there is equine-assisted therapy, yoga, mindfulness and art. The horses live on the land, so equine work is part of the ordinary week.

A typical week includes group work up to five times a day and three individual therapy sessions.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No. Every clinician and every group runs in English, and the whole team is English speaking.

Most of the people who come to us travel from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Can my family be involved in the treatment?

Yes. Family therapy is part of the programme, because recovery is shaped heavily by what someone returns home to.

Family sessions and psychiatric input are scheduled where they are clinically indicated.

Where is the clinic and how do I get there?

The centre is a rustic restored farmhouse, a cortijo, at Cortijo Ferradores, Humilladero, in Málaga province. It is well inland from the coast, in open countryside surrounded by olive groves and mountains.

It is roughly forty five minutes from Málaga airport, and we arrange the transfer and meet you on arrival.

What is the food like?

Meals are cooked by our executive chef, Harri Archanco, who trained at the Michelin-starred restaurant Galvin at Windows at the Hilton Park Lane in London.

Food is seasonal, uses produce from the Malaga province, and is served three times a day with dietary and clinical needs built in. Appetite is one of the first things to return in early recovery, and it matters more than it sounds.

A day here

## What a day here actually looks like.

The real week, as it runs. Taking the first step can feel overwhelming, so we built a place where you feel at ease from the moment you arrive. Tucked into the rural countryside outside Málaga, this is a quiet, rustic place where you can pause, breathe, and begin again.

Morning

### The day starts at the same time for everyone

Breakfast together, then the first group. Structure is most of what holds a first
fortnight steady, so the shape of the day does not move.

Group work

### Three structured groups a day, five days a week

Small enough that nobody sits at the back. The psychoeducation curriculum runs to
seventeen modules across the stay, from emotional regulation to boundaries and relapse
prevention.

One to one

### Individual therapy three times a week

With the same clinicians from your first day to your last, so nothing has to be
explained twice.

The land

### Forty hectares, and horses that live here

Equine-assisted therapy is part of the ordinary week, and there
is walking ground in every direction between sessions.

Evening

### Dinner worth sitting down to, then a close

Cooked by our executive chef, Harri Archanco, who trained at the Michelin-starred
Galvin at Windows in London. Appetite is one of the first things to come back.

We publish a starting price so you know where you stand from the first minute. The 28-day residential programme includes your private room, meals, the core therapy programme, and a year of weekly UK aftercare. Medical, psychiatric, laboratory and hospital costs are quoted separately where they apply.
