# Location, accommodation & safety at Sierra Recovery

A restored farmhouse in the quiet countryside of Humilladero, inland from the Costa del Sol. Private rooms, full board, and a licensed, supervised setting well away from the places and people tied to using.

Sierra Recovery is a restored cortijo, a traditional Andalusian farmhouse, in the countryside near Humilladero in Málaga province, southern Spain. You stay in a private room with full board, in a small, calm, staffed house that is licensed as a registered health centre. It is not a luxury villa and it is not a hospital. It is a quiet, safe place to do the work.

## Where Sierra is

Humilladero sits in the Antequera countryside of inland Málaga, away from the resorts and nightlife of the coast. This is olive and almond country: low hills, open sky, farmland and small towns rather than a seafront strip. The setting is deliberately unremarkable and quiet, which is much of the point. Southern Spain gives you long, mild, sunny days for most of the year, so time outdoors and a steady daily rhythm are realistic rather than weather-dependent.

Getting here is straightforward. The centre is roughly an hour from Málaga airport, which has direct flights from across the UK and Europe, and we arrange your transfer so you are collected and brought straight to the house. The practical detail of flights, transfers and what to bring is set out on our [travelling here](/travelling-to-spain-for-treatment/) page.

## The farmhouse and your room

The house is a working Andalusian farmhouse that has been restored for residential care, not a hotel and not a clinic corridor. You have your own private bedroom, so you have somewhere that is genuinely yours to retreat to at the end of a demanding day. Around the private rooms are shared spaces that carry the ordinary life of the house: a dining room, comfortable living and group rooms where therapy happens, and outdoor terraces and grounds.

Full board is included. Three meals a day are cooked by our Michelin-trained executive chef, Harri Archanco, with fresh, largely local produce, and dietary needs and allergies are catered for. Regular meals, taken together, are part of the structure of the day rather than an afterthought, because restoring a normal rhythm of eating, sleeping and rest is itself part of early recovery. We describe the place plainly because that is what it is: rustic, homely and calm. If you are looking for marble and a spa, this is not that, and we would rather you knew before you travelled.

## Distance from triggers, and why the setting matters

Leaving your usual surroundings is not just a change of scenery. In our approach, addiction is understood as a learned way of regulating an unbearable internal state, and the environment you are in feeds directly into that state. One of the psychoeducation sessions on the programme, Positive and Negative Environments, works precisely on this: which spaces, people and routines calm you and which ones quietly pull you back toward using, and what you can change about them.

A residential stay puts real distance between you and the cues that keep a habit alive: the off-licence on the walk home, the group chat, the same street corner, the pressures at work. That distance is not a cure, but it lowers the daily pull enough for the actual skills work to take hold. You can read more about this way of thinking on [the Regulation Model](/the-regulation-model/), and about how the days are structured on [our programme](/our-programme-at-sierra-recovery/) page. Because the countryside also puts distance between you and home, we run a [family programme](/family-programme/) so the people who matter are not left outside the process.

## Safety and supervision

Sierra is a registered health centre with the Junta de Andalucía, NICA 67331. Qualified nurses are part of the team during your stay, and the small size of the house means you are known, not processed.

Two things about safety we want to be clear on. First, Sierra is not a hospital or a detox unit. Where you need a medically supervised detox, that is completed in an appropriate medical setting before the residential programme begins, so that you arrive stable and ready for the work. You can see how this is handled on our [assessment and detox](/medical-assessment-and-detox/) page. If you are physically dependent on alcohol or benzodiazepines, do not stop suddenly on your own, as sudden withdrawal can be dangerous; in a life-threatening emergency call 999 or 112, and for urgent non-emergency advice call NHS 111. Second, being abroad does not mean being unregulated. You can verify our registration and understand what our licence does and does not cover on our [regulation and licensing](/regulation-and-licensing/) page.

If the setting feels right and you want to know about rooms, dates and cost, the next step is to look at our [admissions](/admissions/) process, or see exactly what is included, and what is billed separately, on the [pricing](/pricing/) page.

## Questions people actually ask

Where exactly is Sierra Recovery?

Sierra is a restored farmhouse (cortijo) in the countryside near Humilladero, in Málaga province, inland from the Costa del Sol in southern Spain. It is roughly an hour from Málaga airport, and we arrange your transfer from there to the house.

Do I get my own room?

Yes. You stay in a private bedroom, so you have your own space to rest in at the end of the day. The shared spaces of the house, the dining room, living and group rooms, and the grounds, are where communal life and therapy happen.

Is Sierra a luxury villa?

No, and we would rather be honest about that before you travel. Sierra is a rustic, homely, licensed farmhouse, not a spa or a luxury villa. The focus is a calm, safe setting and real clinical work, at a fraction of the cost of a high-end villa.

Are meals included, and can you cater for my diet?

Full board is included. Three meals a day are cooked by our Michelin-trained executive chef, Harri Archanco, using fresh, largely local produce, and dietary needs and allergies are catered for. Regular shared meals are part of the daily structure of the programme.

How safe and supervised is it?

Sierra is a registered health centre (NICA 67331). It is a small, staffed house with qualified nurses on the team during your stay. Any medically supervised detox is completed in an appropriate medical setting before you arrive.
