# An authorised Spanish health centre, and how to check it

Here is our licence in full: the exact care unit it authorises, the regulator that granted it, and how to check every word of it yourself in the Junta de Andalucía public register. You should never have to take a treatment centre’s word for anything, ours included.

If you are sending someone abroad for treatment, or going yourself, the question underneath every other question is whether this place is what it says it is. You can check that yourself, in a public register, without taking our word for it. Here is everything you need to do that.

Sierra Recovery is a private health centre in Málaga, Spain, authorised and registered by the Regional Ministry of Health of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía) under registration number NICA 67331. Its authorised healthcare unit is Atención Sanitaria a Drogodependientes (Addiction Healthcare, care unit U.71). The authorisation of functioning is current, was granted following a health inspection with a positive assessment, and is valid for five years.

## What this licence lets you expect, and what it does not

This matters to you for one practical reason: it tells you what you can safely be sent here for, and what you cannot. Read it before you travel, not after.

It is an official authorisation as a registered health centre with an authorised addiction-healthcare unit (U.71), delivering supervised residential addiction treatment and reintegration. Every technique carried out in the authorised unit must be delivered by duly qualified health professionals, which the authorisation requires and we meet.

It is not a hospital licence, and Sierra is not a detox unit. Where a medically supervised detox is clinically needed, it is completed in an appropriate medical setting before the residential programme begins; we assess this with you before you travel. Qualified nurses form part of the team during your stay.

We do not describe ourselves as CQC-approved. The Care Quality Commission regulates health and social care services operating in England; it has no jurisdiction over a centre that delivers treatment in Spain. Sierra is regulated under Spanish and Andalusian healthcare law by the Junta de Andalucía. The clinical model behind our programme is that of PROMIS Clinics, which is CQC-registered for its clinics in England.

### Verify it yourself

- Open the [Junta de Andalucía public register of health centres (SICESS)](https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/salud/oficinavirtual/consulta/index.jsp) and search for N.I.C.A. 67331. Search by tipo de centro and select U.71 Atención sanitaria a drogodependientes, the care unit an addiction treatment centre is registered under. Without that filter the search will not return it.

- Or search the national register, [REGCESS (Ministerio de Sanidad)](https://regcess.mscbs.es/regcessWeb/inicioBuscarCentrosAction.do), for the centre in Málaga.

- Check that the name (Sierra Recovery Services S.L.), the address (Humilladero, Málaga) and the authorised unit (Atención Sanitaria a Drogodependientes, U.71) all match what you read here.

## Clinical governance

The programme is built on the clinical model of PROMIS Clinics, one of the United Kingdom’s longest established private rehabilitation clinics, treating addiction since 1986. Care at the centre is led by Nerea Encinas Sánchez, Director of the centre and General Health Psychologist, with qualified nursing as part of the team.

The centre operates to documented procedures, including an admission plan (plan de acogida), internal rules (reglamento de régimen interno), an accessibility, emergency and transport protocol, and a medication custody and control protocol. A written complaints procedure is available to every patient, and complaints may also be raised with the Andalusian health administration.
